Students in Free Enterprise

Back in my college days I served as President of UNLV's Students In Free Enterprise community service organization. Besides having the opportunity to give back to the community, I was able to gain valuable experience establishing and maintaining professional relationships, coordinating projects, and promoting our young student org through advertising and networking. I had to become a jack of all trades, and much like our organization's goals, my duties were anything but static, requiring me to wear many different hats so to speak. It was incredibly exciting to watch our student organization prosper over time and I'm very proud of the work we accomplished.

My last project before graduating in December of 2008 involved us creating a more "Green" College of Business. It was our goal to have recycling bins (plastic and paper) outside of every classroom within the college. Like most public Universities across America, UNLV was (and still is) financially strapped and budgets were cut. There would be no help offered from the University.

Determined to find a way, my student organization netw
orked with other local businesses in Las Vegas asking them to donate a bin to be placed inside the college. We would allow the name of that business to be displayed on the promotional poster that would accompany each bin. We successfully fulfilled our objective and saw recycling numbers within the college increase after placement of the new bins.

Attached is an example of the signage I created. They were professionally printed and displayed next to each bin. I based the message off Bob Cialdini's research over at
ASU involving the psychology of persuasion.
